The Owners’ property was a cliffside, heavily forested,
presenting such challenges as how to build on a steep hill, getting
a road across it, and making enough room for a home without having
to clear-cut the trees.
We started with the dream of what it would be like to live in a treehouse,
high up among the branches, with special views from the main rooms
out through the trees to the lake beyond.
After carefully removing those trees that were in the way, we built
a foundation platform from which the home could grow. Then we laid
out the main rooms broadside to the view, each room beneath a cathedral
ceiling, which rises to its’ final height of 25 feet above the Living
Room fireplace. Even in the darkest days of winter, each room enjoys
a spectacular view of the landscape beyond, with giant windows drawing
generous light inside.
