We were given a very plain single-storey boathouse on a quiet lake in Muskoka, and were asked to make better use of all the roof area that was available -- about 400 square feet. The boathouse structure was sturdy, and allowed us to perch a second storey over top housing a big room that could be used for almost anything. A new deck overhangs the main boat slip, supported on 2 wood columns, and the remaining flat roof has been turned into a deck. The addition is very roofy, with the steeply pitched framing and dormers reminiscent of boathouses of the last century.
